Viewed as an integral part of Old Town San Diego since 1857, the Whaley House offers you a glimpse into the past. With more than a century in the making, the Whaley House holds an impressive amount of San Diego heritage, from the time of old west prospectors to the flourishing of Old Town as the heart of California.

Recognized as the oldest two-story brick-structure south of Monterey California, the Whaley House features magnificent Greek Revival architecture along with an unrivaled historical timeline encompassing San Diego’s second County courthouse, a lively theatre, a charming general store, and a prominent family home.

While the story of the Whaley House’s origins may seem as simple and innocent as any family history, the truth is, many believed this home was destined to be haunted before it was even built. The property was the site of one of the town’s most famous public executions – that of the hanging of the infamous thief James “Yankee Jim” Robinson.

Worldwide known as the Most Haunted House in America, it is recognized for its historical significance in Old Town San Diego.

Daytime Tour: Open daily: Monday - Sunday: 10:00am- 4:30pm.
Night Time Tour: See calendar for available dates and times. Please arrive 30 minutes before your tour, to check in with the sales rep in the Museum Gift Shop (yellow house).

Reservation Notes:

Daytime Tour: Reservations are not needed or accepted. Tickets can be used on any operating day within 12 months of the purchase date.
Night Time Tour: Guests must check in with our sales rep at the ticket booth no later than 30 minutes prior to the tour starting. Late check-in may result in forfeited reserved entry. Reservation based tickets are non-refundable. You may reschedule up to 24 hours in advance of tour time.

Age Requirements:

The Whaley House Day Tour is rated PG. An adult must accompany children 12 years of age and under. Tour may not be suitable for children under 13. Content might be sensitive for some guests.

Notes:

Please plan appropriately for the historic attributes of the Whaley House Museum including; stairs and uneven grounds. ADA accessible on the first floor, no elevators on-site. Assistance animals, such as seeing-eye dogs, are the only service animals allowed.
