Oliver Bentleys Historic Savannah Dog Walking Tour brings together the Hostess City’s three best features: its beautiful scenery, its rich history, and its dog-friendly vibe. Your dog doesn’t want to just lay around while you’re out having fun. They want to experience everything Savannah has to offer, too. Make no bones about it, history isn't just for humans!
Embark on a tour of tales (and tails) through Savannah's Historic District and learn all about the city’s amazing history. You’ll explore seven of Savannah’s 22 iconic squares, beginning with Columbia Square. These beautiful green spaces punctuate the downtown area with azaleas in all colors, live oaks dripping with Spanish moss, and centuries of fascinating history and charm.
While the tour is designed for people visiting Savannah with their dogs, locals are always welcome, as well as anyone who left their four-legged friend at home and is just craving some canine company. That’s right, you don’t have to have to bring Rufus on the tour, but be prepared to explain yourself when you come home smelling like some other dog!
We’ll walk you and your pack down historic Bull Street, sharing and regaling your pack with the history behind the monuments. You’ll sniff around some of the city’s most well-known historic landmarks. Bring your camera (or smartphone) because there will be endless Fido photo opportunities.
Along the way, your knowledgeable tour guide will point out the many dog-friendly establishments you might want to visit during your stay in Savannah. Don’t worry, you won’t have to remember them all. We’ll give you a map to help you plan the rest of your trip with your canine companions.
The tour is just over 1 mile in length and lasts anywhere from 90 to 120 minutes, depending on the pace set by the dogs. Hey, they need time to properly sniff around! You and your pack will get a leisurely walk while learning about the city, and your dog will be content taking a nap while you slip out for a bite to eat or some shopping later on.
Tours are by reservation only and start from the center of Columbia Square. The tour ends at our store at 409 E. York St.
Dress for the weather. Although the city’s green spaces have plenty of shade, summer is hot, with temperatures reaching the upper 90s. Spring and fall typically reach the upper 70s, while winter highs might be in the 50s. Check the forecast before stepping out to make sure you’re dressed appropriately. Please note our afternoon tour is not offered June through September due to high temperatures. Wear comfortable shoes. As the tour name suggests, you will be walking. While 1 mile doesn’t seem that far, keep in mind you might encounter uneven terrain such as brick or cobblestone walkways, and you will be on your feet anywhere from 90 to 120 minutes.
Bring a water bottle (for yourself and your dog). Frequent water breaks will make you and your bestie much more comfortable during the tour. Water is essential during summer tour season.
Leash your dog. The City of Savannah 's Leash Law requires that all pets be leashed when visiting city parks, squares, business, and residential areas. Keep Spot safe!
Scoop your poop. The City of Savannah requires dog owners to clean up after their pets. There are plenty of trash bins located throughout the city, so you won’t have to carry it the whole time.
